Distortion is on my bookshelf - savingsinseconds.com
Before I give you this book review, I want you to take everything you ever knew about Christian fiction and put it in a box.

Seal it tightly. I’ll wait.

Now, kick that box to the curb. Slam the door for good measure.

Sit back with a copy of Distortion and make sure you’ve got an extra-large drink by your side (maybe a pillow, too) because you won’t want to get up again until you’ve finished this book.

When my review copy of Distortion arrived, I expected it to be like most Christian novels on the market. Author Terri Blackstock proved me wrong and laughed in my face because this book took me by complete surprise. The roller coaster started on the first few pages, when I could sense Bob’s anger from the page. In Distortion, the sister who is trying to keep it all together turns out not to be Holly, the unwed mother who barely scraped together enough money for the rent, but instead Bob’s wife Juliet. That’s because Bob gets murdered on, oh, the third full page. Talk about walking right into the action! Don’t worry, it’s not really a spoiler because you figure it out right from the summary. But HELLO! Distortion doesn’t stop with the excitement there. It’s just getting started. So be prepared to put your life on hold until you sit back with huge eyes, wondering what just happened.

Distortion wasn’t screaming “I’m a Christian novel!!” which makes it a perfect read for anyone who enjoys a great book. It’s the second in a series but if you missed the first book, you can easily put together the basics of what happened from the details given in Distortion. Juliet, the main character of the novel, really puts her faith into action in this book. I can’t believe how much was packed into this story. The secrets to the private investigators’ way of solving crimes was very interesting. Above all, the story seemed like something one could find in any urban newspaper or on a 20-20 episode.  Scary because it could happen, intense because of Blackstock’s extraordinary writing style, Distortion is a must-read.

  1. Good to know. I like reading Christian novels that aren’t “overtly” Christian, for the most part.

  2. I don’t have a religious affiliation, but you’ve really piqued my interest with your review. This seems to have an intriguing plot and unique presentation.

What a fast paced intense read. I like twists and turns when they are done well and make sense. Sounds like this book was well thought out.
