I recently found out that I’ll be teaching 6th grade language arts this year. While it will be a big change from what I’ve done for 8 years (social studies) at least it will give me an excuse to read more books. After all, if you’ve followed my site at all, you know that I love to read! Young adult fiction has become one of my favorite genres; I love finding books that my students might enjoy. Dream Treaders by Wayne Thomas Batson is the first book in a new fantasy trilogy. It has an exciting vibe that tweens will love. In it, the dreamtreaders are tasked with saving the world. No big deal, right? It reminds me a little bit of the Left Behind series that took the Christian fiction world by storm a few years ago. Batson’s writing style captured my attention; the book was full of puzzles and mind games that kept me guessing. I enjoy books that describe spiritual warfare and Dream Treaders certainly hit that mark with its Revelation-esque storyline. This book is perfect for my teenage nieces. If you have a child ages 8-12 in your life, this might be a good book to beat the summer boredom! After reading it, go through some of the biblical references and discuss the symbolism in the story. I like the idea of having a book for teens that focuses on dreams with a biblical tone, too. This sounds like a really creative and good story.
We do on occasion have conversations about how parts of the bible can be relative to our lives in general. I have never really thought about “waking dreams” before, but it is very interesting.

Dreams are a big part of the Bible. Mentioned quite a few times and in very important ways. Start off talking about one of the stories in the Bible using dreams and continue into God still speaks to us today will help kids see how the Bible is a part of their lives and dreams.

When we go to Denny’s, I always seem to get the Slam breakfast, the $4 one, and they let me substitute turkey bacon for the regular bacon (I don’t eat pork). It’s good, and it’s a good deal, too.
