My husband and I love watching shows about government agencies.  The FBI, CIA, and all of it….so fascinating.  Of course, I prefer the fictional stories like X-Files or Alias.  My husband would rather watch documentaries.  Both of us loved the book I received from Tyndale for review — Deep Under Cover by Jack Barsky!

A chunky 352 pages document Barsky’s early life in a spartan home.  He describes his tough-love parents, particularly his mother, and shares his school experiences.  While it might not seem like relevant information (when you think about the whole under cover thing), it helped to explain how his upbringing impacted his personality.

What struck me so hard with Deep Under Cover was Barsky’s genuine belief in his actions.  The book truly illuminates the “nature vs. nurture” philosophy. Propaganda strongly influenced his parents and, consequently,  Barsky himself.  How would Barsky’s life have been different if he’d been born in America?

Throughout the book, an undercurrent of Christian faith tingled my heart.  It made me think about the unlikely event of sitting next to a Barsky in church.  Would I be welcoming?  Would I hold judgment?  It’s amazing to think that the events described in Deep Under Cover really happened, but so profound to realize that events like this are likely happening daily in the US.

Thank you to Tyndale for providing this book for review.
