Teaching reading is only as fun as the reading material I get to share with my students!  Fortunately, there are so many great options for series and themed books.   Every year, I ask students to complete an end-of-year survey about the books they’ve read.  Time and again the students tell me that the #1 factor in choosing a book is teacher recommendation, followed by a friend’s suggestion.  That is a huge responsibility, people!   I take it seriously, trying to stay current in middle grade and teen fiction.  When author Andrew Connell reached out to share his Sean Livingstone series, I had to check it out.

According to Connell…

The Sean Livingstone series is YA science-fiction/action-adventure, and a coming-of-age story about 15-year-old Sean Livingstone. The series throws a unique spin on human evolution and the ancient alien theory – imagine Young Indiana Jones meets Percy Jackson, throw in some time-travel, aliens, mythical monsters, ancient mysteries, and top it all off with Egyptian, Greek and Mayan mythologies.

There’s so much to love about this!  It sounds like science fiction blended with history.  Can you think of a young reader who would enjoy this?  I can think of about 20!

The first book in the series, Crown of the Pharaohs, has great Amazon reviews.  As I skimmed through the preview, several positive points stood out to me.  The first chapter is titled “Secrets of the Sphinx,” which evokes visions of sandy deserts dotted with pyramids and statues.  Connell’s writing style is descriptive without being stale.  Already, I found myself thinking of ways to incorporate excerpts and vocabulary words in a lesson plan.

Thanks to the author, one lucky reader will win a copy of Crown of the Pharaohs plus a $25 Amazon gift card!  The giveaway is open to readers in the US, CAN, and UK ages 18+.  Void where prohibited by law.  Good luck!

Thanks Renee, that’s exactly what I was hoping to achieve with Crown of the Pharaohs. There’s plenty of amazing facts about history, mythology and early human civilizations woven into the story, so hopefully it will also inspire the reader to go forth and explore some these things for themselves.
