The Courtship Basket Who doesn’t love a great picnic?  This charming book cover called out to me right from the start.  I started reading The Courtship Basket while waiting for my mother-in-law to arrive for a visit.  Then, I needed to finish it while she was here so that I could pass it on to her!  There are a few things that happened to me when I read The Courtship Basket.

  1.  I started craving FOOD.  It’s the 4th of July weekend, so there’s plenty of food around, but I had my tasters out for some comfort food.  For example, when was the last time you wanted to eat tuna casserole?  Me, too.  But I want to eat it after reading this book!  I seriously might buy a box of Tuna Helper at the store this week just so i can satisfy that craving.
  2.   I want to hug my husband and best friend for not cheating on me.  Poor Rachel, her BFF and boyfriend caused her all kinds of pain by sneaking around.   Rachel was really determined to forgive the duo, but I couldn’t help feeling mad at them for her.
  3. I started to speak in Pennsylvania Dutch in my mind. Back when texting first became a thing, words like “LOL” were actual words to me. So now, when I’m in a conversation, I have to stop myself from saying something like “wonderbaar gut!” or “I’m so froh for you.”

Clearly, The Courtship Basket got me into the mindset of an Amish character! This sweet book shows readers a different side of the Plain culture.  We don’t often get to see characters who struggle with “English” problems like school struggles or dire medical issues.  In this book, though, author Amy Clipston holds a candle to those facing obstacles.  It made me connect with the plot in a way that I don’t normally experience in Amish romance.  Do you ever have reactions like this to books?

Sounds like this book would really make me appreciate my life and the people and things that are in it. I think I would have a hard time being Amish.

  2. This sounds like a great book. I like reading stories about the Amish. They’re very interesting!
