Fans of Chris Tomlin’s worship music will be thrilled to see the new book inspired by his hit song, Good Good Father. This cute book features a sweet bear named Tucker who struggles with the things he sees in the world. The adorable illustrations, combined with the metaphorical themes of the King, make this book a winner.
Good Good Father has a To/From dedication page in the front, making it perfect for gift giving. I liked that parts of the book are written in red. This helps kids learn to track text. You can also have your children read those parts aloud. Another feature of the story is that the characters have positive interactions with each other. The animals who help Tucker provide encouragement and advice. They serve as role models to him, just as he helps his friends.
I work with toddlers in our church’s Sunday School program. It has reminded me that young kids relate to stories much better than straight fact. For the past few weeks, we’ve learned about David’s defeat of Goliath. I really want the littles in my class to start having an image of God. How they “see” God will carry them through so many hurdles. So we discuss the fact that God keeps them safe. God protects them. God loves them. He is a good, good father who cares for his children. The book Good Good Father is a wonderful reminder of this message. I plan to take my copy of the book into the Sunday School class to read with my sweet kiddos in there.
