Let me be clear. It’s really, really tough to be a teen these days.  Remember middle school and high school — the rough patches with friends, challenges with academics, and struggles to fit in?  Now add social media to the mix.  Keep in mind that students are typically working on content that was taught 1-2 years later when you were in school.  Add the pressure of the media and how teens think “normal” should look.  It’s a rough phase of life for everyone, but especially for this generation of kids! Disclosure: I received this shirt for posting about Boo2. Opinions shared are mine.

You’d think that at the ripe old age of 42, I would have outgrown most of my childhood fears.  There are still a few lingering ghosts in my past, though!  In anticipation of Halloween, I thought we could commiserate over these little quirks.  Share yours for a chance to win this shirt!  [Read more…]

Coding and Computers paperback book from Parragon

Disclosure: I received this book free from Parragon Books. Post contains my Amazon affiliate link; if you make a purchase, I may earn a commission. Opinions shared are mine.

When I was a teenager, my dad tried to convince me to consider computer programming as a career.  It was around the time that dot matrix printers were just coming out on the market….computers were so new that we were in the minority, having one at his house!  Although I’ve never been quite tech-savvy enough to really be good at a computer or coding career, I have to admit that Dad was right.  It would have been a real up-and-coming job for a woman in the 1990s!  These days, Coding and Computers are fun hobbies for kids to learn.  The skills are even taught in schools as part of the STREAM initiative.  Get a head start on those concepts with a workbook like this!  [Read more…]

Bringing Maggie Home by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Disclosure: I received this book as part of the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.
Family responsibilities and obligations can weigh heavy on a young heart.  From a young age, Hazel Mae bore the emotional burden of caring for her younger sister….the one who went missing on Hazel’s watch.  As an older sister, I totally understand that feeling of care-giving for a younger sibling, and for feeling responsible when something went wrong.  Bringing Maggie Home brings back all of those panic-inducing emotions.  No matter where you fit in the whole scheme of family relationships, there is someone in this book who will remind you of a person you know.

Easy Pumpkin Carving book by Colleen Dorsey

We love finding the perfect pumpkins for our front porch, but I’m not so skilled at pumpkin carving. The kids are used to drawing on our pumpkins, or even adding stickers to them. I’ve been known to glue candy to our pumpkins, too….but again, we’re not known for having the most creatively carved gourds on the street. When Fox Chapel Publishing reached out and asked if I would review Easy Pumpkin Carving, it seemed like the perfect chance to learn something new!  Disclosure: I received the book free; post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase, I may earn an Amazon commission. Opinions shared are mine.

Little Wolf’s Book of Badness book + DVD from NCircle Entertainment

Disclosure: I am an NCircle Entertainment ambassador and received this DVD for free. Opinions shared are mine.

Kids love to hear stories about characters who do things completely against the grain.  Junie B. Jones, Dennis the Menace, and Heinz Doofenshmirtz are flawed yet lovable.  Little Wolf fits the bill in the opposite way…..in his world, he’s supposed to be bad (like his Uncle, BigBad) but he’s actually GOOD.  What’s a wolf to do?

Savings for a fun day at The Island in Pigeon Forge, TN #TheIslandPF

So, when we got discounted tickets for the 7D ride at The Island in Pigeon Forge, I had NO IDEA about the other rides that were just around the corner. It was our first time going there, but I just hadn’t researched it at all.  We didn’t have time to check out the rides, so we promised the kids we’d go back the next day when we had more time.  My son was especially interested in the ropes course!
