Public Service Announcement for Northeast Tennessee: GoCart at Food City could change your life!

Food City shoppers - this trunk could change your life!

Upon first glance, this trunk might look like a disaster.  Backpacks, band instruments, and bags strewn about don’t exactly equal a life-changing experience.  There’s more than meets the eye here, though!  The beauty of this scene is that I came home with a trunk full of groceries that

a)  I didn’t shop for, and

b)  I didn’t have to load into my car.

You read that right.   These days, I have a professional grocery shopper.  The best news is that YOU CAN, TOO, if you live in Northeast Tennessee!!  How much would you pay to get 2 hours of your life back each week?  I did, and only paid $4.99.  Great deal, right?  [Read more…]

Honoring Our Veterans and Active Duty Service Members – Ryan’s in Greeneville, TN

Missing Man table at Ryan's - featured on Recently my family enjoyed a complimentary meal at the Ryan’s restaurant in Greeneville, TN.  While we were there, we noticed the Table for the Missing Man.  This symbolic table represents the hole in our hearts, the space reserved for those missing in action.  Coming from a military family, I knew that there was always the possibility that the soldier wouldn’t come home.   My step-father served overseas in several tours; although I was young and didn’t always recognize the dangers that he faced, I realized that he was making a huge sacrifice so that I could enjoy freedom.  The Missing Man table is a beautiful tribute to those who were lost while they served, and shows that we are still waiting for them to come home.  Every Monday, Ryan’s offers a military appreciation discount, but there was more in store!

Menu options at Ruby Tuesday just got more tasty

Disclosure: I received a complimentary meal. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Saturdays are usually reserved for errand-running at the Savings in Seconds house.  This week, my husband was out of town for work 3 days so we had many must-do activities saved up.  We drove down to Johnson City to pick up some clothes he ordered, visited Mr. K’s Bookstore, and went to lunch.  We all agreed on Ruby Tuesday and off we went.

The Garden Bar used to be the reason we loved Ruby Tuesday.  It offers so many fresh picks that can be customized and enjoyed as many times as the diner can handle.  My personal plate is featured below; I chose the French dressing with slices of fresh tomato and broccoli.  The pasta salad was divine!  This is the first salad bar I’ve visited that offered chilled edamame.  What a delicious way to dress up a salad with protein!

Appalachian Fair – Quite possibly the only time my kids are excited about coupons

Tonight we went with friends to the Appalachian Fair in Gray, TN.   We parked way too far away, spent way too much money, and got a little sunburned.  We also had loads and loads of fun!!  Sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer evening, right???   The last time I went to the Appalachian Fair was about 7 years ago when my daughter was really young.  My kids were completely ecstatic about going (of course) because they’re used to me being the Helicopter Mom who doesn’t let them do anything remotely scary.  I still cringe inside when I think about that gigantic ferris wheel we rode.  But you know what?  We survived and had a great time!

Coupons at the fair -

Tonight may have been the one and only time my children were as excited about I am about coupons.

TriCities Tuesday: Indian Brook Farm in Kingsport, TN

Locally sourced beef, eggs, and produce? Yes, please!

I heart natural stuff. Just take a look at my guest post over at Moody Sisters. Since my liver went defunct, we’ve really been making an effort to go natural as much as we can with our foods and personal care products. Growing an organic garden makes me smile and is my spring/summer obsession. At some point I have to draw the line, though, such as raising my own cattle. There’s just not enough time in the day, nor room in my yard, to make that happen. That’s why I’m so very grateful for local farmers who offer organic, non-GMO foods in our area. My very favorite new place to get my beef, produce, and eggs is Indian Brook Farm. [Read more…]

The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn by Lori Benton — book review

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book; this post contains affiliate links. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Normally on Tricities Tuesday I share a fun restaurant or upcoming local event. Today I want to alert you to this awesome new book that features many places that will be familiar to those who live in the Tricities.  The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn takes place in the vicinity of the Overmountain Men, where the turning point of the Revolutionary War would be fought at King’s Mountain.  Having lived in this area for over 20 years, I have often heard about the bravery and sheer guts of the Overmountain Men.  The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn made the period come alive for me.  Each time I read of a familiar spot such as Sycamore Shoals, Jonesborough, or the blue hole I squealed, “I know where that is!!”  It was exciting and fun to read about such a pivotal moment of history through the eyes of author Lori Benton.  [Read more…]

Bonefish Grill = even more delicious on Valentine's Day.

Remember when I told you my Valentine’s Day plan? How we were going to have our Valentine’s Day meal at a great restaurant except not on February 14? Well, that day came to fruition and what a wonderful fruition it was.   So that we could share the lovely meal with you, we went to Bonefish Grill for the Sunday brunch and sampled some of the delicious meals they offer.    [Read more…]
