Even if we’ve just returned from a 10-day trip, I’ve always got Disney on the brain.   It comes up in conversation all the time in our house, whether we’re looking at photos or remembering a funny thing that happened on our last trip.  My son learned to walk on his first Disney trip.  My daughter got to sing with Ariel, her favorite mermaid of all time.  Those special memories are tucked away in my heart, waiting for new ones to be made.  Today let’s talk about the kind of clothes you’re going to pack for your trip. Disney planning – time savers and dream builders

I never thought we would be “that family.” We are practical, frugal, and homebodies. Our children think taking a picnic to the park is a big deal. So why are we going to Disney yet again? Here’s why. To us, Disney celebrates childhood. The fantasy of a fairyland is real in that magical place. The cast members go out of their way to make our children feel special every time they walk in the room. Everything is beautiful and we never see the little elves at work making it so. Our kids love every minute of the vacation and we love every smile they flash for us. [Read more…]

Disney on my mind - savingsinseconds.com

I’ve got Disney on my mind — again.  Even though it’s been just a few short months since our last trip, my kids have been asking when we’ll go again.  There are so many things I love about Disney World. It’s one of the easiest vacation spots I’ve been, especially when it comes to finding things to do.  We stay on property so that we can take advantage of Extra Magic Hours. My kids are up at the crack of dawn anyway; might as well ride some attractions!   The downside is that Disney isn’t really the place for a spontaneous vacation.  For the first couple of trips we took, we spent months of planning, reserving, and researching to get to do everything we wanted to do.  It was totally worth every moment though!

If you’re a first timer, here are a few things to consider. [Read more…]

My #DisneySide party to go — thanks to the snow

#DisneySide must have: Mickey Waffles

Disclosure: I hosted a Disney Side @Home Celebration via MomSelect.  I received products to use for my party; the opinions shared here are 100% mine.  You can host a #DisneySide party, too, even if you didn’t receive a hostess kit!

One thing I love about Disney — it’s designed for families of all shapes, sizes, and locations.  If you’ve ever visited a Disney park, you know that hospitality and flexibility is part of the overall magic.  You need to change your dates?  No problem.  Need to cancel a reservation?  Simple as a phone call.  In planning my own Disney @Home Celebration, I’m glad that I was able to mirror those Disney ideals.  Unfortunately due to the unpredictable weather here in East Tennessee, my guests enjoyed a Disney party to go in February.  You see, my circle of friends are all busy moms.  Working outside the home is hard enough, but then throw in your kids’ activities and family obligations and it’s next to impossible to find a date that works for everyone.  We thought we had it made when February 15 could be written in stone on every calendar.  Then the snow hit.  Then the ice hit.  Then everyone got sick.  How in the world could we manage the party?  Easy!  I made it a #DisneySide party to go since we had to stay in due to the snow.  [Read more…]

On My Bookshelf: The Busy Family’s Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2013 by Jeffrey Merola

Once upon a time, there was a giveaway.   It was the Fairy Tale Giveaway Hop.  The giveaway was such a success that it became an annual event.  The 2013 giveaway hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer,The Book Rat & A Backwards Story will begin on March 26th and is thus to end on April 2nd, whence the entrants and bloggers will live happily ever after.

At the Savings in Seconds house, we love Disney World.  Personally, I love everything about it.  Waking up and having so many beautiful moments with my family, spending time laughing and playing with my kids, and the joy in their faces when they see something new.  Sharing those moments with  my husband is so special.  Disney really is magical.  Isn’t that the way a fairy tale should be?   Unfortunately our first trip to Disney wasn’t so magical.  It’s not a typical vacation; at least, not in the relaxing sense.  There is definitely a learning curve, and if you are planning a trip you should absolutely consult with someone who has Disney experience!  Author Jeffrey Merola shares his Disney expertise in the The Busy Family’s Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2013.   How much is an hour of your time worth?  With the Kindle price at $2.99 and the paperback just $6.95, think of amount of time you’re sure to save because of reading this book.  It’s a steal, right?!  Merola is a husband, father, NY State teacher, football coach, author, and a huge Walt Disney World fan!  He has been on Disney property for about 165 days so he definitely knows his way around the parks.
