Disclosure: I received a copy of this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

My husband and I attended a small, private liberal arts college.  Each year we receive an alumni magazine with articles that share the good works our friends are doing around the world.  In this summer’s magazine there was an article about artisan bread.  The article explained the basics of three basic breads mentioned in the Old Testament.  The feature highlighted a 2010 alumnus who considers bread-making a form of worship.  I found the article to be intriguing and think of it each time I see a loaf of artisan bread at the Farmer’s Market.  When I received Stones for Bread, I immediately thought of that article.  The main character in the story, Liesl, finds bread-making to be therapeutic.  And therapy she needs.  There are a lot of unresolved issues from Liesl’s past….and present….that she’s got to deal with.   Although the story is deep and moving, it’s highly entertaining.  I loved the lighthearted banter between the characters.  The book seemed a bit confusing at first, probably because it’s is nothing like those straightforward Amish romance books I’ve been reading.  Reading Stones for Bread was a bit like watching a TV show; the scenes change and you’ve got to keep up.  If you like Christian fiction with a twist, check this one out!

You have me intrigued about the book and its twists. We all need a relaxing hobby for therapy. Baking is a way to connect with others, too. I hope to find that she shares her craft. I hadn’t heard of this book but will have to check it out. Both for myself and my mother.
