When God Whispers Your Name was the first Max Lucado book I had the chance to read. It was my freshman year of college and I was struggling with decisions about my future. That book changed the way I looked at my faith, at my interactions with God. Lucado has a powerful way of making a message go straight to the readers’ heart. He doesn’t miss the mark with Before Amen.
In this book, Lucado addresses those of us who claim to have “not enough time” to spend in prayer. Too often, prayer becomes a wishlist for the things we want, not a two-way conversation with the Savior. By offering a “Pocket Prayer” and other simple strategies, this book challenged me to make prayer a more natural part of my life. I loved the ABC’s of gratitude that were in the last chapter. There’s no excuse NOT to read Before Amen — it’s so short that you could finish it in a few days even if you just read a few pages at one time. This book would be an excellent resource for those who need a quick, to the point message to deliver at communion meditation. It would be a great springboard for devotions at Sunday night meetings. Before Amen makes prayer more real for those of us who deal with real all day long.
Prayer is simply a heartfelt conversation between God and his child. In Before Amen, best-selling author Max Lucado joins readers on a journey to the very heart of biblical prayer, offering hope for doubts, and confidence even for prayer wimps. Let the conversation begin.
