The Beautiful Pretender

So, there was a little bit of an fixation on The Beautiful Pretender. I wasn’t able to finish it in one sitting, because…..life. So I carried The Beautiful Pretender in my purse for days. Whenever possible, sneaking a little bit of a chapter or even a page. I may or may not have hidden in a bathroom to read it for a few minutes. It’s just that good of a book! After a particularly busy day, the book fell out of my purse into my car. I tore the house apart looking for it, before I realized where it was. Melanie Dickerson, I blame you for this obsession!

So many reasons engulf my preoccupation with this book. First, it’s a spinoff of Beauty and the Beast, although it’s very loosely based on that fairy tale. Melanie Dickerson’s writing is so rich with description and vivid detail. Finally, the characters engaged me in the most beguiling way. I admired Avelina’s devotion to her family, and her willingness to do whatever it took in order to protect their wellbeing. The precarious world of a medieval court was enchanting to read about. The only thing I didn’t like? That the story ended!

What book did you enjoy this month?
