National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend -- #cookieboss #sponsored savingsinseconds.com
Teaching for 16 years in the middle school has given me the chance to get to know lots of kids.  Among the thousands of children with whom I’ve spent my school days, some of the best were Girl Scouts. Without fail those girlss are always respectful, hard-working, and dedicated students.  Even now, when one of my Girl Scout students asks me to buy a box of cookies, I try to always say yes.  My niece is a Girl Scout and I’m always happy to buy several boxes from her.  When my own daughter signed up for Girl Scouts I was thrilled.  Supporting the organization that helps young women become responsible citizens is perhaps one of the most worthy causes in the world.   Alas, there is an ulterior motive to my saying “yes” to so many boxes of cookies.  So yeah, I received payment for this sponsored post through Mom It Forward Blogger Network but the opinions and sad, sad story I’m about to share are 100% mine. You see, in 2009 when I was pregnant with my second child, gestational diabetes hit me like a beast.

Making it through the holidays was a breeze.  Not eating pasta?  No problem.  I even limited myself to one tiny sliver of baby shower cake without much complaint.  But when it was time to order the Girl Scout cookies, my heart broke.  Withholding those little morsels of heaven from my insulin-resistant pancreas was tiny torture. Not willing to endanger my baby even for some samoas, I hid a couple of boxes in my cabinet with the intention to splurge after the baby was born.  After all, the baby would be born well after cookie season and I didn’t want to lose my limited supply.  I told my husband to stay out of my stash.  No one argues with a preggo woman. When I returned home from the hospital and was deep in the throes of the baby blues, the only cure was the coconut-chocolate goodness that had awaited me for so long.  Sneaking into the cabinet after a late-night nursing session, I was frustrated at not being able to find the beautiful boxes.  Turns out that the many houseguests who visited during the baby’s arrival had depleted my stash.  No!!  I am not joking!!!  My father in law actually ate my Girl Scout cookies.  Five years later, the bitterness remains.  Only a lifetime of eating those lost samoas will sweeten my spirit at this point. So attention Karma. You owe me some Girl Scout cookies.

Let’s face it. If we’re honest with ourselves, we might acknowledge that the timeline for Girl Scout cookie sales is just about perfect since we’ve probably lost the Thanksgiving/Christmas weight by then.  We can afford the few extra (cough, cough, thousand) calories that can be consumed in one sitting.  If you’re really feeling stressed about it, why not choose the THIN Mints?!

When you see the Girl Scouts sitting at the table in front of your grocery store or Walmart, buy a box. Or three.  Do it for yourself. Do it for Girl Scouts around the world.  Do it for me. Get out there and enjoy National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend.  Then think of me while you’re eating those bites of goodness.

  3. I still love the shortbreads! Isn’t it funny how we all have our favorites?

  4. I’m such a sucker for Girl Scout cookies. They really get me when they’re camped outside a grocery store … and I can’t resist!

  5. Wow, I would be peeved if someone ate my stash!

  6. Oh, I love Tagalongs! My absolute favorites!

  7. Sherry Compton says

I am so sorry for your cookie loss. This is obviously very dear and painful for you still. I think you deserve an extra box…or two…this year. 🙂

For some reason, you just can’t say no to a Girl Scout. Delicious cookies call your name. Enjoy!

  8. I love Thin Mints, Shortbread and Samoas! I can’t decide which I love more. I usually buy all 3!

  9. I can’t believe they ate your cookies! Well, actually I can – my family would have done the same 🙂

  10. Mmm, Girl Scout Cookies! Tagalongs were my favorite.

  11. Aren’t those delicious? I could so go for it

  12. Sarah Elyce says

I feel like teachers often buy a lot of fundraisers to help support kids- my Mom sure has the last 30 some years. It’s great… just wish teachers earned more to support their support of kids. Girl Scout Cookies are always a favorite!

  13. I get the thin mints and put some in the freezer to enjoy the rest of the year.

  14. Ashley Trail says

I think that I would walk a mile for some thin mints right about now !!!

  15. Like the thin mints

  16. Thin mints are my favorite. I want one now and it is not even 8:30!

  17. The Thin Mints are the very best & our favorites—they taste great frozen!

  18. Kelly Ann T. says

  21. thin mints are my fav!

  22. Dorothy Teel says

I love the Thin Mints right out of the freezer, they are delicious., I understand that the Girl Scouts are testing gluten free cookies we sure would love them here.

  23. I bought 5 boxes of thin mints last night. I didn’t put them in the freezer yet, but now I remember why I usually put them right in the freezer. I ate half a box today. Must put them in the freezer….

  24. Laura Wilson says

Thin Mints are my favorite, but I am guilty of stealing almost the whole box of Do-si-does that were my husbands!

  25. Laura Wilson says

I like the Be Light bag.

  26. Just polished off two boxes myself. Resisting the urge to by more. Great for the Scouts, bad for my waistline, lol.

  27. I’m a proud former-Girl Scout and can NEVER pass up a box of Thin Mints or Samoas. It’s like re-living my childhood when my mom was the troop “Cookie Mom.” I’ll always be a supporter!

PS – Keeping multiple boxes of Thin Mints in my freezer to satisfy pregnancy cravings 🙂

  28. Oh, that is just low, to steal anyone’s Girl Scout cookies, let alone a new mother. I’m surprised it didn’t plunge you into postpartum depression. A woman and her chocolate should NEVER be parted. I’m more of a Thin Mints fan, but I may try Samoas this go around. Thanks for the laugh, even if it was retroactively at your expense.

  29. I used to be a Girl Scout and remember the days when we would sell them door-to-door. Girl Scout cookies are premium and seasonal. I can’t believe that people, house guests no less, ambushed your stash! I would be seething. There’s nothing worse than having a craving for something and looking forward to eating it, only to find it gone.

It happened to me once. My mom had made my favorite lamb stew and I was looking forward to eating it for dinner. When I got home and searched for it in the frig and couldn’t find it, I found out that my mom had given it to a houseguest. The guest ignored my mom’s comment that it was my favorite and that I had planned to have it for dinner 🙁

  30. Marti Tabora says

Who doesn’t love Girl Scout Cookies? I think the shortbread ones are my favorites, but I really like the tagalongs too!

  31. Sherry Compton says

I bet the thought of this still upsets you. Cookie Thieves…horrible!!!! I hope you receive several boxes from friends every year. Buying is a must. We don’t need any, but they call. Just think you are supporting the girls. You’re doing good to buy. 🙂
