As newlyweds, my husband and I visited the auction house every week to find affordable furnishings to decorate our home.  Every Tuesday night, we looked forward to meeting new friends, finding amazing bargains, and learning a lot about history.  The thrill of bidding on an auction is something you just can’t understand until you experience it. It’s such a rush!   When I realized that the setting for At Love’s Bidding was an auction house, it brought back those wonderful memories.

Miranda’s description of the auction house wasn’t unlike the one my husband and I frequented.  In a downtown area, surrounded by urchins and people hard on their luck, the auction house was abuzz with activity on sale days.  My favorite parts of the book, though, took place when Miranda went on her cross-country journey to the Ozarks with her grandfather.  The humble people described in that section of the story were so endearing.   Unfortunately there were so many over-the-top moments in the story that it detracted from the decent plot.  One crazy situation after another just made me tired.  The book wasn’t a wash, however.   I enjoyed the sweet romance between Miranda and Wyatt; her grandfather was a charmer as well.   This is a book I would recommend for days that you want to just sit and enjoy a good cute read, without worrying about plot twists or suspense.

She sells priceless antiques. He sells livestock by the pound. Is he really the man to make a bid for her heart?

After a cross-country trip to track down a sold painting that could ruin her family’s business forever, Miranda Wimplegate forms an unlikely but charged partnership with livestock auctioneer Wyatt Ballentine in Regina Jennings’ At Love’s Bidding. Miranda and her grandfather discover their new auction house doesn’t deal in fine antiques, but in livestock. And its frustratingly handsome manager, Wyatt, is annoyed to discover his fussy new bosses don’t know a thing about the business he’s single-handedly kept afloat. Faced with more heads of cattle than they can count–but no mysterious painting–Miranda and Wyatt must try and prevent a bad situation from getting worse.
