My biggest recommendation for this book series is —> DON’T READ THE BOOK SUMMARY!!  Each title is so short that it’s difficult to give a proper review without also giving an improper spoiler.  The book summary completely gives away every single thing that happens in these short 100 pages.  So, heed my advice and just open to the first page!

In the first book, Sarah got on my nerves, and things didn’t change much with the second book.  I tried to remember that she was quite young, and therefore inexperienced in matters of love.  For example, why would she think that it would be okay to intrude on her best friend’s honeymoon?  Her sense of responsibility toward her little brother was the biggest redeeming quality she had.  In A Heart’s Obsession, Sarah gets a backbone and goes after her lifelong love (Rand Campbell).  Unfortunately, when you put a toy down in the sandbox, sometimes it gets picked up by someone else.  Sarah has some bad experiences on her little adventure, and it makes me wonder how things might work out.  There were a few discrepancies that might have been my fault; for example, one character (Jessica) references a threat she made toward Sarah. Try as I might, I could not locate that interaction in any of the previous pages.  Perhaps I just skimmed too quickly.  The story moves FAST — lightning speed, really, and it’s like having whiplash to turn from one frantic scene to another. In this book, Rand quickly nosedived in my estimation because he turned around and did exactly what made him so furious about Sarah!  UGH.  The characters just won’t listen to me!

A Heart’s Obsession might be titled A Heart’s Hope. It gave me hope that Sarah might just grow up a little bit after all.  Her father’s absence is sure to be a difficulty that she’ll have to overcome, and I hope she learns to stand on her own. Sarah has a hard time knowing her own heart, and I hope that she does that sooner rather than later.  I have hopes that Ben will meet his true match……someone he really deserves.  Oh, the hopes I have for this series!

Do you like to read romantic historical novels like this one?

Thanks for the warning about the book summaries. You give us just enough information without giving it away. I think my mom would like this series actually. I’m afraid Sarah would annoy me, too.
