On My Bookshelf: An Unholy Communion

Talk about heavy reading! An Unholy Communion starts out with a nun who reflects upon her life, specifically upon the birth of her son who was the product of a rape. The story continues without much mention of her, yet her situation weighed heavily upon my heart. The next scene in the story occurs when a dead body is flung into the midst of worshipers during the Ascension service. Eeeeeewwwww!

I thought it was appropriate that many of the characters names were of biblical origin. The book An Unholy Communion is almost an allegory of good versus evil. There are many historical references in this book as well, especially regarding the Romans and other pagan religions. Oh, and I can’t forget the mention of Bella and Edward! The situations in the story are shrouded in mysterious danger as the sinister plot unfolds. Deep and symbolic, An Unholy Communion gives me chills because of the truth that it could actually happen. If you are a fan of Frank Peretti novels and other stories of spiritual warfare, this will be right up your alley!

I participated in the book tour for An Unholy Communion. I received the book for review purposes; the opinions stated here are 100% mine.

  1. I read Peretti’s books several years ago and enjoyed them. (I also really enjoyed his books for youths). I’m not sure that this sounds like something I’d like though…
