Disclosure: I received this book to review. Opinions shared are mine.
You might remember my reviews of books by Dr. Richard Mabry in the past. This time, I want to share his newest title with you — Fatal Trauma is another medical suspense novel that flies right in your face! From page 1, Mabry takes the highest level of action with his words. In this book, Dr. Mark Baker finds himself in one bad situation after another. I wondered if Dr. Mabry has a thing for redheads (there’s another one in this book).
Not gonna lie about it — it was difficult to like Mark at first. Sure, he’s a hero in the ER. Still, he seemed like a selfish guy. Dating around is something I just don’t understand (see my stance on dating here) so it bothered me that he wasn’t committed to Kelly. Then when he battled his feelings for different women throughout the book (all while his life was at stake) it made me question his priorities. Over the course of the nearly 300 pages, he started to grow on me. Still, I don’t think I would trust him if I were in a relationship with him.
As for the plot, it thickened with increasing intensity. The timeliness of the story line was something that could be found in today’s headlines. There is a lot of violence in the book, along with some mildly graphic descriptions of injuries, so that might be a little too in depth for some readers. It wasn’t too much for me, though, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fatal Trauma.
Thanks to Litfuse for providing me with a copy of this book.
I love thrillers & mysteries, but I hadn’t read anything by Richard Mabry. I’ll look for his books. They sound like reads I would enjoy.
The suspense and action part of the book sound appealing, but, like you, I am turned off by the idea of dating and feelings for every woman. I will have to read the book to find out if his attitude is too much for me or if he will grow on me too.
Reading your review again, I’m still intrigued with the suspense but pulled toward Kelly’s feelings, too. It would be so hard to be in her position I think.
