Movie Night? Read the book first!

Disclosure:  I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

I’ve had some sneaky ways of getting my books read over the years.  Normally I keep a book in the bathroom for those moments I can hide in there and get a few pages in.  We have a small walk-in closet in the master bathroom where I’ve stashed a book or two, creeping out to read in the wee hours of the morning when my hubby is asleep.  I’ve also kept a book in the kitchen for years, sneaking in a chapter while stirring a pot or waiting for water to boil.  Reading is such a big part of my life and always has been!  When a movie comes out and has a companion novel, I usually try to read the book first if possible.  My biggest reason for this is that I love to imagine the scene and characters before seeing them in movie form. Once I see the movie, my own vision dissipates into the air.  For example, when I read Twilight, I had a picture in my mind of how Edward and Bella looked. Like most people, the movie versions did not even compare, but I lost my own mind’s eye picture.

If you’re the same way, you might want to grab a copy of Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio before the movie comes out!  The movie premieres on June 1 on Up TV.

Although this is an Amish fiction novel, there is a huge blend of the English world in the book.  There are the token tourists who travel through the community to sample the breads and observe the Amish lifestyle.  But there’s more than meets the eye!  Serena Miller captures the heart of both worlds in this book.  I felt a bit naive when I realized that Sugarcreek, Ohio is an actual place. Ha!   The only complaint I had about this book was that there is a lot going on.  It’s a bit hard to keep up with it all!!  But I would imagine that as a movie, things move pretty quickly and the change in scenes/characters wouldn’t be as noticeable.

I’m that way. There are a few books I will read after the movie but, if I’m going to, I’d rather read the book first. You just get more details and more character development. There is only so much they have time or ability to do with films. The book just gives you that inside look. I’m a librarian so I say stash books all over and keep on reading.
