Make the story of Jesus come alive with The Thief by Stephanie Landsem

When my review copy of The Thief arrived, it was shelved and noted on my calendar. The days slipped by and when my review was due, I pulled it out and hastily started to read.  Soon it was clear that this is not a skim-worthy book.  The Thief is a book to be savored.  I went back to the first page and took my time, staying up until nearly midnight to finish.  There’s something special about reading a story when you know part of the ending.  In this case, the ending is just the beginning.

Okay, that sounded a lot more cryptic than I intended.  Here’s the dealio.  The Thief takes us to the final days of Jesus’s ministry but only brushes upon Jesus as a side character. Instead, the story centers around the thieves who are crucified with Him on the hill of Golgotha.  We see the daily struggles of the Jews as they wilt under Roman rule.  We also witness the miraculous healing that Jesus accomplished.  More than once there was a catch in my throat or a skip of my  heart as I wondered what would happen next.  So many times I stopped and considered how I might react in the same situations that Nissa found herself in.  Would I have the strength of character, the sturdy faith, required to stiffen my resolve and press on in the face of death?  It’s my prayer that I could do so.  Only by God’s mercy am I released from such a fate.

Mercy, love, and forgiveness are the bells that ring through The Thief. This was an excellent book and I’m excited to share it with you.  Read the other reviews and see what you think!

Don’t miss Stephanie Landsem‘s outstanding sophomore effort, The Thief.

Best-selling author Tosca Lee had this to say of the book: Filled with memorable characters, The Thief is a tale of hopelessness turned to hope, of high stakes made higher, and ultimate love. What happens when a character at the lowest rung of society crosses paths with the most well-known figure in history? The story of The Thief. I couldn’t stop reading.

Wow! It sounds amazing and powerful. I often ask myself those questions too…what would I have done. Would I be so strong? I have to believe that if God puts us in those situations, He also prepares and strengthens us for them.
