I was excited to participate in the book tour for the new Home to Heather Creek series!  Guideposts can always be depended upon to provide uplifting reading material.  I knew this series could be only the best.  When I received the first two books (Before the Dawn and Sweet September) I just couldn’t wait to start reading.

To say that the story drew me in is such an understatement.  My heart literally hurt within the first few chapters.  Three children are left in the wake of tragedy of their mother’s death.  They move across the country to their mom’s homestead to live with grandparents who are virtually strangers.  It broke my heart to think of such a situation.  As a mom, it’s one of my greatest fears to think that my children might be left without me someday.  Even as I type these words, I can’t resist holding my son on my lap.  This series helped to remind me that I’m only chosen as the guardian of these precious children for a limited time on Earth.  My heavenly Father holds them in his arms, watching over them and guiding them so much better than I ever could.  I also felt a renewed sense of urgency to connect to my childhood roots.  My children should know where their parents fostered the hopes and dreams that led to this small family.  Having a sense of one’s roots was a value my dad tried to impart to me.  I felt sad for Denise’s children who didn’t seem to have that blessing.   Charlotte, the grandmother in the story, is a beautifully strong spirit who wants to make it all better.  I love that about her.   Things aren’t easy for the siblings or their grandparents as everyone settles into a new way of life. I was a bit resentful toward Bob, Charlotte’s husband. He seemed to be a real stick in the mud who was quick to give his demands yet unwilling to lift a finger to ease Charlotte’s burden.  Still, a family’s love is stronger can overcome any hurdle.  If you’re looking for a series to steal your heart and renew your soul, you’ve got to check out Home to Heather Creek.
