I’m guilty of using the kiss-test to see if my kids have a fever.  If you don’t know what that is, it’s a very unscientific way to diagnose a sick kid. Basically, my lips can tell if my child’s temperature is running slightly high. The problem is, unless you’re Marie Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond, this technique is not very accurate.  Thankfully, Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer with Smart Glow makes it simple to take a temperature, even if the baby is asleep!

Recently, my son and I took a road trip to visit my family in Kentucky.  We took a little adventure to the Kentucky Down Under zoo at Horse Cave, KY.  What a fun, sizzling summer day it was!

We’re lucky to live within driving distance of Pigeon Forge, TN. In the Sevierville and Gatlinburg area, there are so many family-friendly activities to enjoy. We got word that May was Teacher Appreciation Month at WonderWorks, so we headed down there one Saturday. My kids call this “The Upside Down House.”

I bought some beautiful hanging baskets from the grocery store a few weeks back. Pink and cream petunias billowed from the sides of the planters, cascading down with all kinds of springtime potential. Over the next few days, the cream petunias died off.  A few stragglers remain, but now the flowers are mostly pink.  They’re still pretty, and I enjoy looking at them.  Still, they’re not as lovely as when they had the pink and cream, the way they were when I bought them.  In the book The Life We Never Expected, authors Andrew and Rachel Wilson describe parenthood with special needs children in rather the same manner. It’s still parenting, but just not the way they expected. The two share the wisdom they’ve learned from tough parenting.
