Bonefish Grill is the place to be for your Valentine’s Day meal

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Bonefish Grill = even more delicious on Valentine's Day. savingsinseconds.com

My husband and I have rarely enjoyed a really nice meal for Valentine’s Day.  For one thing, we never seem to plan ahead enough to get to a really good place for the big day.  We’ve spent more than one Feb. 14 evening sitting in a fast food restaurant with a very grumpy mood surrounding us because I wasn’t too happy about it.   We’re typically working on Valentine’s Day and I don’t feel like making a nice meal when I get home. My husband hates being in a crowded restaurant and doesn’t want to linger over candlelight.  Once the kids came along, it became tougher to go out because (a) we don’t have a babysitter and (b) I feel guilty ruining everyone else’s dates with our kids’ antics at the table.  Another factor is we always seem to be low on cash around Valentine’s Day.  The aftermath of Christmas is usually still hovering around and we have our kids’ birthdays to prepare for.  So where can we go for a nice meal and still not break the bank?

The Secrets of Happy Families – Conversation Starters

Disclosure: I received these books in exchange for an honest review. Post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

Reminisce on your childhood for a moment. What moments gave you the best memories?  How did your family’s dynamics shape you as an adult?   On Savings in Seconds, I’ve shared many stories about my formative years as well as my trials as a mom.  Our family life is a work in constant progress with some days of backsliding.  The Secrets of Happy Families by Bruce Feiler is the guide book I never realized we needed.  Author Bruce Feiler is the kind of guy you’d like to invite over for dinner.  The book is extremely down to earth, even with the statistics and research thrown in for good measure.  In addition, it’s really helpful for providing meaningful advice to parents.   The strategies in this book could even be used in the classroom, office, or another setting where people are expected to cooperate with each other.  I guess that covers pretty much any scenario! Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick is on my bookshelf

Hush Hush is on my bookshelf -- savingsinseconds.com

Last summer via a blog giveaway I won the Young Adult book Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.  Due to the overwhelming amount of unread books sitting in my house, this one just sat on the shelf.  When our nieces visited in July and the brooding teen needed something to read, I handed her this.  She sat by the pool and read it all day long, immediately asking if I had the sequel when she finished.  Then when the girls had a sleepover at Christmas, she must have still been thinking about it; my daughter came home asking if she could read the book because her cousin had told her all about it.   Thus I was prompted to finally read Hush, Hush.   [Read more…]

Make your list and check it twice — Month9Books 2014 trailer is here

In my daughter’s weekly report, her teacher mentioned that we needed to discuss the importance of checking over one’s work before turning it in.  Since this has been an issue we’ve tried to address in the past we decided to take a more drastic measure and remove the iPad from the picture for a few days.  When our daughter asked what she would do in the evenings, we suggested reading books (since that’s what she happily did to pass the time in the pre-iPad days.)   With wide eyes, she declared that she couldn’t read if we took her iPad because all of her books are on the Kindle app.

Oh yes, she did. She said that.  [Read more…]

Disclosure: I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Fans of medical shows, stand back. Rescue Team by Candace Calvert will have you glued to its pages. Full of action, interoffice politics, and small town gossip, this book was hard to put down. Both of the main characters, Kate and Wes, have personal baggage that threatens to pull them under.  They’re fighters, though, and it shows in their every move.   [Read more…]

Best Beauty Box for 2014

Order by Jan 31 and get a free January box at Beauty Box 5 with your February order -- savingsinseconds.com

Disclosure: I received product samples; the post contains affiliate links.
The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

It’s no secret — I love getting great stuff in my mailbox.  After a long day at work, coming home to a fun little treat that’s just for me puts a smile on my face.  Signing up for a beauty box subscription is a great way to guarantee some good mail for yourself.  And there’s no shame in it, either.  It lasts a lot longer than sending yourself flowers too (and it’s cheaper).

One of my favorite monthly subscriptions is the Beauty Box 5.  This little green box gets me all giddy.  My daughter always says, “What’s in your box this month?” because she knows there’s probably something in there she can play with, too.   This month you can get 2-for-1 with the Beauty Box 5 special.  Simply order your February box before January 31 and you’ll get a January box, too.  That’s a super deal and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day.  Don’t miss it!
