On My Bookshelf: Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska

When I agreed to participate in this book tour, I really had no idea how much I would LOVE this book.
I’ve read one other book by Tricia Goyer and while it was a good story, I’m just not really into Amish romance books.  The main reason I enjoyed Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska is the story-within-a-story appeal.  [Read more…]

The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge

Disclosure: I received free admission for this post. Post contains affiliate links; purchases made through the link may earn me a small commission.

On this cold Saturday morning, everything in Northeast Tennessee was covered with a beautiful sheen of ice following our recent winter storm. What a perfect day to remember those souls who were aboard the Titanic just over 100 years ago.

As we drove down to Pigeon Forge, I was reminded of how cold it was on the Atlantic on that fateful night in April 1912. The air was around 32 degrees and the water a frigid 28 degrees!

Redbox deal: 5 movies for $3

Redbox

Our area has virtually zero places to rent movies from that is simple to access.  There are the in-store movie areas in grocery stores, but the options there are often limited.  I can just about forget finding a copy of a new release.  There is no Blockbuster or other video rental store either.  Redbox has become a go-to place for us to grab the newest movies because (a) it’s easy to access (b) it’s easy to return and (c) it’s cheap!   With this snow day deal, you can get 40% off that low price—-get 5 movies for $3!  That makes each movie just 60 cents per rental.  [Read more…]

What does your favorite TV show say about you? #boostyourblog

Downton Abbey….I just can’t get enough! I love everything about it. The history, the romance, the stifled drama.  It’s just delicious TV to me.   My husband and I love to watch period dramas like this one, but we have a variety of genres sitting in our queue.   We have a limited number of shows that we watch on regular TV, mostly because we just don’t get to watch TV at the same time every day.  On “regular” TV, we like reality shows like Gold Rush, American Pickers, Storage Wars, and Pawn Stars.  It’s amazing how much one can learn by watching shows like these!  I’ve really picked up a lot of the gold-mining vernacular.

Macadamia nut oil in my hair?!

So you probably know by now that I’m really into hair products and tools.  Taking a little extra time on my hair is a luxury that I don’t often get to enjoy.  Recently I had the chance to try the Macadamia Oil product line from Flat Iron Experts.  I tried the shampoo and healing oil treatment.  First of all, the bottles are just beautiful.  I love the shapes of these containers.  I can’t wait to use it all up because I plan to repurpose these into summer vases.  Am I the only one who thinks that way? Space Settlers: Free game for iPad and iPhone

If your iOS loving gamer got a new i-device for Christmas, consider this free download of Space Settlers for some cool graphics fun.  Space Settlers features “mecha combat and real-time strategy.”  The game is really easy to play by just following the prompts.  At the beginning of the story, we are told that the God particle can be proven to date back to millions of years ago.  The Time Gate has been held open for humans. Got curls? I’ve got the shampoo for you.

When I don’t take the time to straighten my hair, my friends are always surprised by how wavy it is.  Mostly the reason that I don’t wear it that way is that my waves and curls aren’t uniform….one side is always wavier than the other and it bugs me.  My daughter, on the other hand, has gorgeous round curls that look like we spent hours curling it with a hot curling iron.  Both of us have very thick, coarse hair and we need a major conditioner to take our hair on.   When I tried nuNAAT Treatment Curly I wanted to see if it helped to even out my waves. Napping on Sunday afternoons……

Today is a really unexpected snow day for our school system.  I’m enjoying being in my jammies and not having to go out in the cold.  It feels almost like a lazy Sunday afternoon!   What does your family like to do on Sunday afternoons?    When I was a kid, I really loved watching weekend morning cartoons. Check out Sunday Morning Rewind to revive some of the best 80’s cartoons!   These were the pre-VCR and DVD days so weekends were just about the only days we could watch our favorite cartoons.  It’s crazy how much times have changed; my kids can now watch Netflix on their own devices! What are you getting for your Valentines this year?

Every year I try to find a fun, inexpensive Valentine’s Day gift for my kids.  We really prefer non-candy gifts because my children don’t really eat too much candy.  Their Halloween candy usually ends up in the prize box in my classroom.  We still have uneaten Christmas candy in the cabinet.   So this year I’m looking for some craft materials and other small goodies for them to enjoy.  I also want to give them an extra special Valentine’s Day card.   Every time I check the mailbox and they see a letter or magazine, the kids ask if it’s for them.   Sending them a little something in the mail would really make their day!  At 45-cents per stamp and at least 99-cents per card, that could get pricey for a large family!   That’s why I love deals like this one:
